Yusuf Pathan sets Brabourne stadium on fire with fastest IPL century

The second match of IPL 2010 was between two teams who had a reasonably disappointing performance in the last season of IPL, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians. The two teams were believed to be evenly matched and an exciting contest seemed to be on the cards.

Mumbai were given a blazing start by two veteran champions of world cricket, Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasurya. But a double strike by Dmitri Maschrenhas pushed Mumbai to the backfoot. At this point Saurabh Tiwari and Ambati Rayadu hit blazing half centuries to lift Mumbai to a huge score of 212 of their alloted 20 overs.

Rajasthan Royals who were chasing a mammoth 213 for victory had a precarious start when they lost opening batsman Swapnil Asondkar in the very first over. Mumbai Indian bowlers dealt further blows and Rajasthan Royals were reduced to 66 for 4 at the end of 10 overs. Just when Mumbai Indians thought that they had established a firm grip Yusuf Pathan played a brutal knock which almost won the match for Rajasthan Royals. Pathan's 100 came off just 37 deliveries which the fastest IPL century is beating the previous best by Adam Gilchrist who scored 100 in 42 balls against Mumbai Indians in the inaugural season of IPL.

In this hurricane innings of his Pathan hits left arm spinner Ali Murtaza for three sixes in a row and later punished medium pacer Satish who conceded 26 runs of a single over which included three boundaries and two massive sixes.

Yusuf Pathan raced to his half century of just 21 balls and send shivers across the Mumbai camp. But unfortunately for the Mumbai Indians Pathan was not done yet as his next 50 runs came of just 16 balls. Powerful and authoritative stroke play from Pathan had all Mumbai Indian bowlers running for cover.

Pathan was dismissed when R Satish ran him out off his own bowling. He received a standing ovation from the Brabourne crowd for an innings which will be certainly remembered for a long time to come.
